Many of us work from home offices, run small businesses or plan to start new ventures.

Others telecommute to jobs “down the hill” or would like to be able to do so.

Still others desire two-way video conferencing capability to consult in real time with distant medical professionals or business clients, visit with far off relatives or take online classes without leaving home.

Most of us want “always on” access to the vast amount of Internet-based information, online shopping, social networking Web sites and the growing quantity of high definition, digital video entertainment.

School age children increasingly need high speed Internet access to complete homework assignments and to download digital textbooks.

Plus we all need clear and reliable voice telephone connections as the publicly switched telephone network that has served us for many decades is growing obsolete and being replaced by the Internet.

To make these services possible and affordable with good value, El Dorado County residents and business owners must take matters into their own hands and build a modern fiber optic telecommunications network that can deliver them reliably now and into the future.

There’s an additional bonus: fiber to the premises has been shown to increase the market desirability of a property much like a water meter hookup does in unincorporated El Dorado County.

Become a charter member of the Camino Fiber Network Cooperative and do so today.

As a member, you will have a voice in the direction of the coop and be able to serve as a board member and elect directors of the corporation.

Most importantly, you as the consumer — and not some large out of state corporation — will have control over services offered, their cost and the quality of customer support.

History is on our side.

Cooperatives have an established place in the United States, formed in the early part of the 20th century to provide utilities such as electric power, water and telephone services.

Cooperatives must once again fill the need as we move to the next generation of Internet-based telecommunications services and construct the infrastructure necessary to deliver them.

Your membership fee may also qualify for a business or home office expense tax deduction; consult a tax professional for definitive guidance.
